10 BEAUTY TIPS -

10 BEAUTY TIPS -

1. Brushing Up

Make body brushing a part of your daily routine. Scrubbing out dirt and grime is the least of its advantages. Body brushing tones and stimulates skin, helping with the natural drainage of the lymph glands. It also helps combat cellulite. When brushing, work towards the heart, up from your legs and thighs, and down from your neck. Oh, and remember, skin should be dry while body-brushing, so make sure you have a soft brush - you don't want abrasions that are hard to explain!

2. Banana Rama

For a great homemade face softener, try this: mash a banana and apply it to your face. Leave on for ten minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Your face feels like satin. Plus, it puts those over ripe gooey bananas to good use!

3. Pearly White

Ever looked in the mirror and felt that your teeth were going from white to off-white to yellow? Take a hard look at your habits. The biggest culprits in the teeth-yellowing process are tobacco, coffee, tea and red wine. So if you must indulge, brush your teeth afterwards whenever possible, or at least rinse with water.

4. Shades Of Summer

A snazzy pair of sunglasses not only looks great, but also delays the onset of crow's feet (wrinkles on the sides of the eyes) which are accelerated by squinting in the sun.

5. Peaches And Cream

Great looks come with great skin, so get crackin' on that epidermis. Dirt and oil blocks pores causing blackheads and pimples, while dirt, grime and pollutants are drawn to oily skin like moths to a flame. So wash your face as often as possible, and cleanse at least twice a day.

6. Instant Glow

So you've just reached home after a nerve-wrecking day at the office and have to leave immediately for a dinner party thrown by your husband's most revered business client. How to get that glow in a flash? You could cheat and layer on the blusher, but a better option would be to try this: simply mix equal amounts of lemon and honey, apply it to your face and wash off after ten minutes.

7. Luscious Locks

Nothing improves the quality of your hair better than getting a regular oil massage. Get it done at home once a week if you have a husband or mother-in-law that dotes on you, or visit your neighbourhood parlour.

8. All Steamed Up

After applying oil wrap your hair in a steaming towel for twenty minutes. Give your hair this steaming treatment at least once a month. Steaming hair after applying oil helps it soak deeper into the follicles.

9. Fun In The Sun

The sun's warmth may make you feel good but it's ultraviolet rays over time cause at best, dry wrinkly skin and at worst, skin cancer. Don't step out without loading on that sunscreen. In the summers, avoid stepping out between 12:00 to 2:00 when the sun is at its peak.

10. Water, Water Everywhere

You can never drink too much water. It flushes out your toxins and is great for the skin, liver and just about every conceivable body organ! It keeps you cool and feeling fresh, reduces dehydration and rejuvenates your body cells. Drink at least ten glasses of water in a day. Bottoms up!

The Acne Queen

The Acne Queen

Have you ever been called horrible names because of your acne? Have you ever stayed home instead of going out with friends because of your acne? Well, you are not alone, when my sister was younger it was so sad, she was called the Acne Queen, she got so depressed. Her face was so bad, she had lots of black heads and white heads, and she was a walking talking running advertisement for acne. If the criticism and mockery of her peers (especially her so called girl-friends) was one thing, the impossibility of removing the ugly acne she had was another thing altogether.

Our family members didn’t help much, the general myth about acne being a result of poor (or more specifically, junk) diet meant she couldn’t eat too much junk food and had to “eat more veggies”. A number of her friends ate out with her, and what’s more, ate junk food even more frequently than she did, but they hardly had any acne. Something had to be wrong with that popular myth; I had seen the myth being busted right before her eyes. Another associated myth was about chocolate, and since she loved chocolate in any form or shape, she would have found giving it up an absolute nightmare, almost impossible. I even read & followed news and medical reports on the subject, I discovered to her relief that chocolate consumption had nothing whatsoever to do with acne.

Her peers were not much of a help wither, most of her friends, hinted with obvious sarcasm, that her acne advertisement face was a result of my excess chocolate.

Another myth that I did believe, and which sounded genuine and even scientific at that time, related to the assumption that acne was a result of dirt accumulation on the pores of her face. I never stopped to realize that if that was the case, how come she didn’t have acne all over her body? She spent ages washing her face with all kinds of soaps and anti acne creams in a bid to eradicate acne but it didn’t seem to work. In the end my sister decided to change her attitude, instead of freaking out and getting continually stressed, she decided that “what will be will be” and stopped looking in the mirror every day and within a few months the acne was certainly subsiding, so much so that after about a year it had gone completely.

Do you have Acne?

Do you have Acne?

Are you one of millions people world-wide that have acne? You are not alone and I know how traumatized you must feel at times. I acknowledge that our appearance has a powerful impact upon our confidence, or lack there of, so if I ask, “How is your skin looking these days”? You would not be in the minority if you are tormented by acne. However, you should never let this skin disorder get the best of you, it is time to stand up tall, and demand your life back. We have so much information, products and resources at our disposal, so there is no reason why we can't strive to be acne free.

While proper skin care and reliable treatments are crucial in getting rid of blemishes, many people overlook the other things. It's not just about your exterior; we have to consider what goes on inside us as well. This brings me to the topic of acne diets. What do you eat?

You may or may not have come across the subject of acne diets. This pertains to what you consume and how it affects your skin. I recall a few winters ago I was sitting in the doctor's office with my wife. She was there for a back pain assessment. I had severely chapped lips at the time and asked her if she had some lip balm in her purse. The doctor looked at me with a smirk and said, "You know, the condition of your lips actually relates to your diet." She informed me that consuming the proper nutrients and fluids on a regular basis would prevent my lips from being chapped. This baffled me but I listened to what she had to say.

However, these days I have adopted a more nutritious diet, drinks lots of water and I now refrain from using lip balm and guess what, don’t have chapped lips anymore. It's really unusual how some things work out because this concept also applies to our skin. Did you know that the food you eat excretes back through your pores? Well, substances from them do, I guess this gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, you are what you eat. This is why acne diets may be important for some individuals, for example, foods high in fat and grease are known for causing breakouts of acne particularly fast foods. Also when it comes to acne diets, foods that are very good for your skin include, fruits and vegetables, organic products, non-processed items, and of course water.

So, in conclusion, the experts highly recommend that anybody suffering with acne should experiment with their diet as research certainly demonstrates that it assists in reducing and/or eliminating acne. Most health shops have dietary program free for you to peruse.

Acne and Your Diet

Acne and Your Diet

The right diet is a key factor in maintaining acne free skin, we all know that what we eat comes out through our pores; we should think and eat, fruits, vegetables, and bucket loads of water, these will give our body the nutrients that we need everyday.

How is your diet and more importantly, how is your complexion? is it oil free, shine free, perfectly hydrated, radiant, smooth, and acne free? Although none of us are perfect, at least it is in our power to make sure our skin looks great at all times. Because let's face it, we all want a great complexion, and that means staying acne free.

What causes acne anyway? Unfortunately most people don't even know. They just go about buying loads and loads of treatments, which unfortunately worsens the situation sometimes. To be acne free, you must first understand your face.

Okay, so you know your skin type; that's a good start. It's now time to find products that work well for you. Just because they say they're for your particular skin type, doesn't mean that they'll do your mug justice. While we all typically understand that pimples erupt due to clogged pores, many of us do not attack this dilemma in the right fashion. So you have dead skin, oil and bacteria; you know that these are the catalysts that initiate acne, but do you know how to deal with them properly? First of all, you don't want to over-cleanse. This will only aggravate and irritate your delicate skin further. The last thing you need is a dry face. This dilemma will actually cause your glands to pump out more oil to compensate. What you need is balance if you want to be acne free. Try a gentle cleanser that's dermatologist recommended. This will wash away the dirt and oil, but not strip the skin's surface. A topical treatment may be necessary to apply after cleansing. It's always prudent to pat the face dry with a clean towel. You don't want to rub and cause further irritation.

A final tip concerning acne free skin relates to having a good night sleep, are we getting enough sleep? We need to ensure that we get enough rest every day which in turn reduces stress and fatigue and which will obviously affects our complexion. A trick I learnt and have passed it on to who-ever would listen is to change pillow cases every night, it may sounds weird, but all I have heard that certain bacteria is left on your pillow case every night when you sleep and that we should wash them every day – try it – you have nothing to loose, and just think – if it even gets rid of 1 acne spot – it will be worth it.
