Facial Hair Removal

Facial Hair Removal

When we meet a person, the first thing that we notice is his/her face, including eyes, nose, lips and even skin. This is the main reason why people always want to have clean and spotlessly clean skin. Apart from pimples, acne, blackheads, whiteheads and so on, women have to face an additional problem, as compared to men as far as facial attractiveness is concerned. This problem comprises of facial hair. While for men, facial hair make up one of the features of their masculinity, for a woman, they form a major source of embarrassment. If you are a woman and suffer from the problem of facial hair, help is at hand now. Read on and explore the various options for facial hair removal.
How to Get Rid of Facial Hair
Home Remedies
Nothing beats natural cures and treatments as far as taking care of the skin is concerned. Though they take some time in showing effect,
  • Make a paste of sugar, lemon and water. With the help of a face brush, apply it in the direction of hair growth. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and then rinse off. Apply twice a week.
  • Make a paste of 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice and 4 tsp honey. Using a face brush, apply it on your face, in the direction of hair growth. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and then rinse off. Apply twice a week.
  • Take milk and put some turmeric powder in it. Apply it on your face and leave for a few minutes. Using circular motion of your fingers, start scrubbing it off. Finally, wash off with cold water.
  • Mix 1 egg white with 1 tsp sugar and ½ tsp corn flour. Blend the mixture thoroughly, till it forms a sticky paste. Apply it on your face and let it dry. Thereafter, peel it off gently. Apply 3-4 times a week.
  • Add some turmeric powder to besan (gram flour). Mix in a little water to form a paste. Apply it on your face and leave it on till it gets dry. Gently rub it off your face.
  • Make a paste of curd, turmeric powder and gram flour. Apply it on your face and let it dry. Thereafter, rub it off gently.
Tweezing and Threading
Apart from home remedies, there are a number of other treatments for facial hair removal as well. Amongst them is tweezing and threading. Though both the methods are temporary, they are also amongst the safest ones. For making the removal process easier, place a warm damp cloth over the face for 5-10 minutes before plucking or threading. Otherwise, you can also try plucking or threading immediately after coming out of shower.
Electrolysis
One of the latest methods of facial hair removal is electrolysis. It makes use of electric current to get rid of the hair on your face. Since electrolysis destroys the hair follicle itself, it is considered as a form of permanent hair removal. However, the treatment is lengthy as well as costly. Another disadvantage is that there is always the risk of getting electric shock, infection from a non-sterile needle and even scarring by improper technique.
Laser Hair Removal
Another one of the permanent hair removal techniques comprises of laser hair removal. Just like electrolysis, it also destroys the hair follicle and leads to permanent removal of hair. The problem with laser hair removal is that it takes a considerable amount of time and is expensive. At the same time, it can lead to discoloration of skin (either darkening or lightening of skin), inflammation, swelling, or even infected hair follicles.

What to Expect at Your First Bikini Wax

What to Expect at Your First Bikini Wax

So it’s your first bikini wax? Wonderful, you will be able to experience being hair free in your bikini line for weeks at a time. Don’t be nervous, this is a very requested service that many women and men are getting.

Although every salon or spa and technician has their own style of doing things, we’ll walk you through what you can expect at a regular bikini wax.

  • Are you a candidate? If you have never visited the salon or spa for any type of waxing you should be asked to fill out a questionnaire to make sure you don’t have any circumstances or conditions that would not make you a candidate for waxing.

  • Get started. You will be lead to a private room and asked to remove your pants and possibly your underwear. Some salons will give you disposable panties while others will work on your bikini area with the panties you’re already wearing. The technician will leave the room to let you get ready and lie on a facial bed.

  • The consult. Once the technician returns, they will ask you how much hair you want removed. Some people prefer just a clean up (the hair outside the panty line) while others like the line to go a bit deeper, and some hair off the top of the ‘triangle’ also removed. They may ask you what type of bikini wax you would like when you make your appointment, so they know how much time to book.

Make sure you have communicated with the technician and they know exactly how much hair you want left and removed. Be aware the price will go up as more hair is removed at most salons.

How Should a Brazilian or Bikini Wax Look Like?

How Should a Brazilian or Bikini Wax Look Like?

Redness is normal, but bruising, excessive bleeding and tearing of skin is not.
Question: How Should a Brazilian or Bikini Wax Look Like?
Answer: Well, this will differ from person to person. It will depend on your skin and hair type, but especially how well your Esthetician performs the service.

So first and foremost let's start with safety. Please make sure you are getting services from a licensed professional. Ask to see their license and training certificates.

Also, please be aware that there should be a clean and sanitary environment to be waxed in, whether you're getting a quick eyebrow or full bikini wax (read warning signs to look for). Safety is the most important thing. If the Esthetician, or Skin Care Therapist, is well versed in health and safety, you will have a much better waxing experience.

It is always important to ask questions and your Esthetician should never get upset or question why you are asking. Remember, your health and safety should always come first.

How To Guide: Waxing Bikini Area

How To Guide: Waxing Bikini Area

Did waxing your bikini area end up in a mess? We're here to give you the secret- Hard wax! It's specifically made for coarse hair, doesn't require a strip, and actually 'shrink wraps' the hair making them easier to come out.

These instructions are to do a regular bikini wax at home, removing the hair outside your panty line. Unless you are a gymnast, I don’t think you can do a Brazilian bikini wax on yourself. Leave that one to the pros.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 1 hour or more for waxing bikini area

Here's How:

  1. Buy waxing kit. I recommend using hard wax for bikini area because the hair is coarse. Hard wax (compare prices) goes on smooth, but hardens so that it doesn’t require a strip to be removed. The following directions are for the use of hard wax.

  2. Have enough hair. Grow bikini hair out to at least 1/4" long. Use hair clippers to trim hair down if longer than 1/2". Scissors don't work well for trimming because you run the risk of making some hair too short.

  3. Cleanse skin. Use pre-wax cleanser on bikini area and apply pre-epilation oil which works with hard wax. Don’t over do it on the oil, more isn’t better.

  4. Apply wax. Using an applicator, apply wax evenly FIRST the opposite direction of hair growth, and then WITH the direction of hair growth to a large area (about 4 ½” long and 2 ½” wide)in the same stroke. Don’t stop at the edge of where the hair grows, go passed that point. You will use the part of the wax that isn’t attached to hair as a tab to remove it. The wax will dull as it hardens, and will not be tacky. If the wax isn’t hard enough when removed, it won’t take away all of the hair.

  5. Remove hair. Lightly flick up a small part of the wax that isn’t attached to hair on the end to be used as a tab once cooled. Say hair grows from left to right- the end is on the right side. Hold skin taut with one hand, and remove wax in opposite direction of hair growth in one quick pull, all the way to the other side. Don't pull up, which might be your natural inclination. Press hand down on skin to help relieve some of the pain, after wax is removed. (Sounds silly, but it works!)

  6. Repeat. Work your way waxing bikini area, repeating steps 4 and 5.
  7. Get missed hairs. Use tweezers to remove any hairs missed by the wax.
  8. Clean skin. Remove any remaining residue, with wax remover.
  9. Soothe skin. Apply after-wax lotion, or an aloe based lotion or gel.
  10. After care. The bikini area has a tendency for ingrown hairs. Two days after wax, lightly exfoliate area to try to avoid ingrown hairs and try Flawless Ingrown Hair Serum (read review) if you do end up getting any.

Tips:

  1. Waxing can cause red bumps, ingrown hairs and bruising. Read more about how to prevent and stay clear of waxing side effects.
  2. Practice using the wax on a small part of your body, like your arm so you get the feel of it. Always test small amount of wax on hand before putting on bikini zone, to make sure it’s warm, not hot.
  3. There are some circumstances in which you shouldn’t wax. Read: Waxing Precautions & Warnings for the full list.
  4. Take an asprin or ibuprofen 30 - 45 minutes before waxing, and apply a numbing spray (compare prices) if you're concerned about the 'ouch factor'. Read: Top Ten Tips to Reduce Waxing Pain for the full run-down.
  5. A couple weeks before waxing your bikini area, shave exactly what hair you want removed and make the bikini lines even on both sides. Once it grows back it will make waxing the area you need to remove hair easier to follow.

What You Need:

  • Wax warmer
  • Hard wax
  • Pre-wax cleanser
  • Pre-epilation oil
  • Square-edge applicators which makes getting a straight line easier
  • Wax remover for the skin (or you can use baby oil or petroleum jelly)
  • After- wax lotion, or aloe based gel.

Bikini Waxing Styles

Bikini Waxing Styles

Decoding the Bikini

Hair Removal Ads
You may not know there are many bikini waxing styles or types to choose from. Whether you want a little or a lot off, you can select the one that's best for you.

Just keep in mind that every salon and spa has their own names or versions of how much, or what hair is to be removed for the price on their menu. And just because a facility offers bikini waxes, doesn't automatically mean they will do all the styles for both women and men. This article is describing the styles as they would relate to women.

Basic Bikini Waxing Styles:

  • Regular Bikini Wax: Removes the hair outside the panty line.

When to choose: If it's your first bikini wax, or are just looking for a clean up.

    Learn More:
Wax Your Bikini Line at Home

  • Full Bikini Wax: Takes the sides of the bikini line deeper than a regular bikini wax, and can also include waxing some hair on top to make a more defined ‘triangle’ area, or trimming down the hair left shorter.

When to choose: You still want to keep hair, but want more definition than a clean-up.

  • French Bikini Wax: Takes all hair off the in the front (except a small strip) and continues to right before the back. It doesn't take hair off from the back like a Brazilian (see below).

When to choose: You want the area basically pretty smooth with most hair removed, but don't want to take any hair away from your behind.

  • Brazilian Bikini Wax: Takes all hair off the bikini line, front all the way to the back (yes by your bum). Sometimes a small landing strip or triangle is left in the front.

When to choose: The perfect option if you wear a thong bikini, or want to be completely or almost hairless in front and back.

How To Remove Pubic Hair

How To Remove Pubic Hair

How to remove pubic hair? Well, you have options for this sensitive area. Some are temporary and easy to do, while other methods take a bit more work, cost and time but do last longer. We go over each option to help you choose the best hair-ridding method for you.

Bikini Waxing

A very popular method for ridding hair for up to six weeks using a resin-wax. A popular service found at salons and spas everywhere with many bikini waxing styles to choose from- a clean up to getting it all removed and everything in-between. While waxing your own bikini line (the hair outside a regular panty line) can be done at home, anything more than that requires making a professional appointment.

Photo © Naomi Torres
There are two types of sugaring: paste and a gel. Both types are made with natural ingredients like lemon juice, sugar and water leaving you hair-free for up to six weeks. Many people favor sugaring over waxing because it’s less painful and gentler to the skin. All big pluses for the bikini zone!

The same principle applies here as waxing. You can clean up your bikini line, but more extreme styles need an appointment with the pros. Make your own product for less than $2 (get recipe) and use it as a paste (read instructions) or heat it up in the microwave and use it as a gel (read instructions).

Depilatories (Hair Removal Creams)

A strong alkaline product breaks down hair so that it can be easily wiped off. A little bit better than shaving because it doesn’t usually create as sharp of a tip like when using a razor. Results will only last you for a couple days at the most. Just be careful because hair removal creams contain harsh chemicals and can burn your skin, especially the delicate bikini zone. Not all depilatories can be used down below, so be sure to read the label.

Try a product made especially for the bikini area, like Ready Betty (read review).

Because it's a special waxing, there are certain things you should do before and after to care for your Brazilian.

3. Men's Bikini and Brazilian Wax

4. Find a Clean Salon

Jennifer Sheets/ IStock Photo
Opting for a professional to do the job of waxing your bikini, doesn't come without possible issues. You want to make sure the salon and the technician you go to is keeping it clean, to protect you from getting an infection, or worse, a disease.

5. Curb Pain Waxing Pubic Hair

Let's face it, waxing the bikini area is a very sensitive zone and doesn't come without some measure of discomfort (read: pain). Fortunately, there are simple steps you can do to take the ouch factor down a couple notches like taking a warm shower right before your waxing, and using a numbing spray.

6. How to Wax Bikini Line

Any technician who knows what they are doing waxing a bikini line uses hard wax because it's perfect for coarse hair. If you want to save some money, we have good news. You can get hard wax at your local beauty supply store, and better yet, we have the directions on how you can wax your bikini line right at home.

BellabeTM Facial Hair Remover

BellabeTM Facial Hair Remover

Original and Authentic. Only Bellabe is made in the U.S.A.

Our website was featured on the RACHAEL RAY SHOW on March 20, 2009.

We have been selling online since 2004 and our sales of Bellabe (pronounced as Bella-Bee) have been beyond our wildest dreams!! Our customers love Bellabe so much that they are coming back time and time again to buy Bellabe!!

BellabeTM facial hair remover, which is a manual epilator, offers the easiest and fastest way to remove unwanted facial hair from the roots quickly and effectively, without waxing, bleaching, tweezing or shaving.

Originally designed based on the ancient art of threading hair removal used by Asians for centuries, the unique spring action does not use any thread, but yet removes unwanted facial hair from the roots quickly and effectively.

What is THREADING HAIR REMOVAL? Threading is an ancient form of hair removal that continues to be practiced by many in the Eastern part of the world. Unwanted hair is removed from the roots with the use of a cotton thread by trained practitioners. Today, threading hair removal is the hottest method of facial hair removal and continues to grow in popularity in the U.S. and worldwide. The origins of threading is not clear, with some claiming it began in India, the Middle East or China. However, threading can cut the skin, even if done by experienced threading practitioners.

With Bellabe, threading hair removal expertise is not required, since no thread is involved, therefore there is no risk of cuts and nicks. In just a simple Bend and Roll motion, Bellabe's unique spring action quickly removes several strands of unwanted hair from the roots quickly and effectively without pinching or cutting the skin.

Bellabe, which is the size of a pencil, is so simple to use that even a 10-year old child can master this form of hair removal!!

Women are "blessed" with upper lip hair, hair on our chins, cheeks and even sideburns. In today's economy, it does not make sense to spend money on regular visits to the beauty salon to have our unwanted facial hair professionally removed. Bellabe is designed for individual use and can be used over and over again. Thus saving you money in the long run. Each Bellabe lasts at least 6 months to a year before being replaced. Frequency of Bellabe use will vary from person to person. It can take anywhere from 3 days to 4 weeks before having to use it again.

Bellabe is made up of 2 handles and a specially coated skin-friendly spring. No nickel is used in the spring. This spring is then flexed into a bow and placed on the face where there is unwanted facial hair. When the handles are rotated between the fingers, the hairs are trapped in the precision coils and removed - follicle and all! Since no smelly and messy chemicals, creams, lotions or waxes are used, Bellabe is therefore very safe and does not damage the skin.

Some people may experience some initial sensitivity using Bellabe while the hair is pulled out from the roots. However, with regular Bellabe use, most people get used to it and say that it is practically painless!

Most people get the hang of using Bellabe in just a couple of tries. As you become more familiar and comfortable with using Bellabe, removing unwanted facial hair will be a breeze! In fact, many of our customers use it while watching TV or surfing the internet. You don't even need a mirror. No need to plug in or search for batteries as Bellabe is a manual epilator.

So, exactly how does it work?

1. Bend the Bellabe spring downwards as shown in the picture and place against your face where facial hair is to be removed. Make sure the inverted U is constant.

2. Roll the handles inwards and outwards in a continuous motion. You will feel a plucking sensation as the hair is removed from the roots.

And it's done! Simply Bend & Roll and all your unwanted facial hair will be gone in just a few minutes!

Abdominal wall surgery is surgery that improves the appearance of flabby, stretched-out abdominal (belly) muscles and skin. It is often called a "tummy tuck." It can range from a simple “mini-tummy tuck” to more complicated, extended surgery.

It is not the same as liposuction, another way to remove fat. But abdominal wall surgery is sometimes combined with liposuction.

Alternative Names

Cosmetic surgery of the abdomen; Tummy tuck; Abdominoplasty

Description

Your surgery will be done in an operating room in a hospital. You will receive general anesthesia. This will make you unconscious and unable to feel pain during the procedure. The surgery takes 2 to 6 hours. You can expect to stay in the hospital for 1 to 3 days after surgery.

After you receive anesthesia, your surgeon will make an incision (cut) across your abdomen to open up the area. This incision will be just above your pubic area.

Your surgeon will remove fatty tissue and loose skin from the middle and lower sections of your abdomen to make it firmer and flatter. In extended surgeries, the surgeon also removes excess fat and skin (“love handles”) from the sides of the abdomen. Your abdominal muscles may be tightened also.

Your surgeon will close your incision with sutures (stitches). Your surgeon may insert small flat tubes called drains to allow fluid to drain out of your incision. These will be removed later.

A firm elastic dressing (bandage) will be placed over your abdomen.

For a less complicated surgery, your surgeon may use medical devices called endoscopes. Endoscopes are tiny cameras that are inserted into the skin through very small incisions. They are connected to a video monitor in the operating room that allows the surgeon to see the area being worked on. Your surgeon will remove excess fat with other small tools that are inserted through other small incisions. This surgery is called endoscopic surgery.

Why The Procedure Is Performed

Most of the time, the surgery is called “elective” or “cosmetic” surgery because it is something you choose to have. It is not usually needed for health reasons. Cosmetic abdomen repair can help improve appearance, especially after a lot of weight gain or loss. It helps flatten the lower abdomen and tighten stretched skin.

It may also help relieve skin rashes or infections that happened under large flaps of skin.

Abdominoplasty can be helpful when:

  • Diet and exercise have not helped make very weak muscles stronger. This can be true for women who have had many pregnancies.
  • Skin and muscle cannot regain its normal tone. This can be a problem for very overweight people who lost a lot of weight.

Abdominoplasty is not used as a way to lose weight.

Risks

The risks for any anesthesia are:

The risks for any surgery are:

Risks of abdominoplasty are:

  • Damage to internal organs
  • Nerve damage that can cause pain or numbness in part of your belly
  • Having a very low body temperature during surgery

Before The Procedure

Always tell your doctor or nurse:

  • If you could be pregnant
  • What drugs you are taking, even drugs, supplements, or herbs you bought without a prescription

Before your surgery:

  • Several days before surgery, you may be asked to stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), warfarin (Coumadin), and any other drugs that affect blood clotting.
  • Ask your doctor which drugs you should still take on the day of your surgery.
  • If you smoke, try to stop. Ask your doctor or nurse for help.

On the day of your surgery:

  • You will usually be asked not to drink or eat anything after midnight the night before your surgery.
  • Take the drugs your doctor told you to take with a small sip of water.
  • Your doctor or nurse will tell you when to arrive at the hospital.

After The Procedure

You will have some pain and discomfort for several days after surgery. Your doctor will prescribe pain medicine to help you manage your pain. It may help to rest with your legs and hips bent during recovery to reduce pressure on your abdomen.

Wearing an elastic support similar to a girdle for 2 to 3 weeks will provide extra support while you heal. You should avoid strenuous activity and anything that makes you strain for 4 weeks. You will probably be able to return to work in 2 to 4 weeks.

You will need to schedule a visit with your doctor to have your stitches removed.

Your scars will become flatter and lighter in color over the next 3 to 6 months. Do not let the sun shine directly on your incision. Keep it covered when you are out in the sun.

Guide To Permanent Facial Hair Removal

Guide To Permanent Facial Hair Removal

There is certainly no shortage of hair removal products on the market today, but is there a way to get permanent results?

An abundance of hair removal products are available to consumers today. Online and in stores, there are literally hundreds of different options for hair removal. When making selections for your hair removal needs, how do you determine, with all of the overwhelming options, which is right for you?

Hirsutism is the name of the condition of having excess hair. This can be on the body or face. If your hair follicles are overly sensitive to male hormones, which are referred to as androgens, your tendency to grow excess hair is increased. This condition can be inconvenient and embarrassing for many women. It can make them feel less feminine and, in some cases, destroy self-esteem. The causes of this condition vary. It is believed that being overweight can cause excess androgens and, for some women, simply losing excess weight can help with the problem of excess facial hair. It is also believed that stress can cause excess androgens. It's usually a good idea to discuss with your doctor the possibility that something medical could be causing your excess hair before assuming you are just unlucky.

There are two different types of hair that can grow on the face. Vellus hairs are the light, nearly invisible hairs that are similar to the fuzz on a baby. Age, health factors, and other unknown reasons can cause those hairs to turn into terminal hairs. Terminal hairs are the dark, thick, visible hairs that can sometimes grow on a woman's face.
