IS JUST A SHAMPOO ENOUGH?

By Yahoo! India

You protect your skin with a sunscreen, but have you ever wondered if you're doing enough to keep your hair healthy and happy? Over a period of time, hair tends to lose its original sheen, owing to a lot of factors like pollution, stress, dietary changes, climatic conditions, etc. Here's a post-wash hair care regime that ensures your hair stays healthy always.

Everyone needs a conditioner!

Yes, that's a fact. After accepting that, the next step is to choose the right conditioner for your hair type. When choosing a conditioner, don't just think of your hair texture, but also identify what is your specific hair requirement - do they feel too dry after a wash, or do they break easily, or is there notable hair fall? With a conditioner that matches your hair care requirement, you can experience the transformation of your lovely locks in just a few weeks.

What does a hair conditioner do?

A hair conditioner has 3 essential functions - Moisturising, Repair and Protection. It acts like a moisturising agent on your hair, making them softer. While your shampoo gets rid of dirt and grime, your hair conditioner repairs hair damage due to pollution, hair treatments, etc., making them stronger and elastic. It also coats your hair to make them look smooth and shiny.

Remember: A shampoo with a built-in conditioner is simply not enough to do the job!

What are the benefits?

Conditioning your hair after a wash helps keep your tresses healthy and manageable, thus preventing breakage. The instant benefits are quite visible - your hair feels softer and looks smoother. But regular use assures long-term advantages - protection of your strands, making them stronger, which results in lesser hair breakage, and a fuller mane. It is a good practice to condition your hair every time you shampoo it.

What's the right way to apply a conditioner?

After washing off the shampoo from your hair, use a towel to pat-dry it gently. Typically, the roots of the hair do not need extra conditioning, so apply your conditioner from half-way down your hair shaft and extended downwards to the tips. The quantity depends on a number of factors like the length of your hair and how often you condition. Do check the instructions on the pack as well. Usually, a dollop of the size of a walnut should be enough.

Complete your hair care regime, choose the right conditioner and be the envy of the town with silky soft tresses that shine!

Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation

It may be argued that fashion is fickle but many women have coveted bigger breasts for centuries. The first surgical breast augmentation was performed in 1890 using paraffin injections. In 1920 this technique was abandoned in favor of fat transplants. Fatty tissue was surgically removed from the abdomen and buttocks and transferred into the breasts. In the 1950's polyvinyl "sacs" were frequently used to achieve fuller, more projected breasts. Although invented in the early 1960's, it wasn't until the 1980's that the silicone implant, as we know it, really began to take off. Today, the most commonly used implants have a silicone shell but are filled with a salt-water solution known as saline.

Motivations vary but the main reasons a woman has breast augmentation are that she feels her breasts are too small, she has uneven breasts or she wants to regain the size and shape of her breasts after experiencing significant weight loss or pregnancy.

Common Questions about Breast Augmentation

Benefits of Breast Augmentation Surgery:

The cosmetic surgery procedure of breast augmentation can enhance one's breast size and shape, resulting in a more proportional figure. While the reasons may vary as to why one would seek breast augmentation surgery, some of the more common reasons include:

  • To increase the breast size, for a number of reasons including the perception that one's breast are too small;
  • To enhance the overall body contour, balance and proportions;
  • To achieve an enhanced appearance, size, projection, etc., following pregnancy and/or weight loss;
  • To restore appearance through reconstruction following breast surgery (i.e., mastectomy).

As with other cosmetic surgery procedures, the most appropriate candidates for breast augmentation surgery are those who are looking for improvement and not perfection. Additional factors such as being over eighteen years of age, possessing good physical and mental health, and being realistic in their expectations are additional considerations one should keep in mind while determining whether or not breast augmentation surgery is right for them.

Going bald may be inevitable, staying bald doesn't have to be!

Most men will have some degree of hair recession during their lifetime. There is a wide spectrum of severity, from small areas of loss in the temple region, to almost total baldness. The age at which it starts varies greatly , but the onset and severity often has a hereditary component. Usually, the hair at the sides and the lower part of the back of the head are spared. This is because these areas are not subject to the influence of the male hormone, testosteron, that acts on the hairs on the front and top of the scalp. These hairs are genetically programmed to eventually fall out and little can be done to prevent this from happening. It is the areas where hair growth is likely to be permanent, particularly the lower part of the back of the head, which can be used to provide hairs to resurface bald scalps or increase density in thinning regions.

Historically, hair restoration procedures gained bad reputations because the techniques available left an unnatural, 'pluggy' appearance. This meant that it was often immediately obvious that the individual had undergone a surgical procedure. Current methods, however, give a natural hairline and pattern of hair growth, which is unnoticeable to all except the most informed observer. This involves the transplantation of individual hair follicles or groups of hairs known as follicular units.

If one is planning to have a hair transplantation procedure, however, it is important to be realistic. Balding is a progressive phenomenon. If treatment is started early, before the genetically determined extent of balding is reached, then further procedures are likely to be needed and should be planned for. Likewise, if severe balding is present, there may not be enough donor hair to be transplanted to recreate adequate density over a large area and compromises may be necessary. It is these factors, amongst others, which make it important for anyone considering hair transplant surgery to meet with the surgeon who will be performing the operation and following up the patient for many years after.

When well planned and skillfully executed, hair transplantation can yield remarkable results, transforming not only how a man looks but also how he feels about himself and interacts with society.

Hair transplantation

Hair transplantation involves transferring hairs from the back and side of the head (the "donor area") to those areas undergoing hair loss or thinning. The hairs from donor area are genetically programmed to be permanent. Once transplanted, these hairs will continue to grow for a life time, they can be groomed, shampooed and requires hair cuts like normal hairs

Most men in good general health are candidates for hair transplantation. If:

You've lost hair due to an inherited trait
You've lost hair due to trauma or burns
You have healthy hair growth at the back and side of your head

HOSPITALSTAY/OUT-PATIENT
Hair transplant is done as a day care procedure, and you will be discharged on the same day.

ANAESTHESIA
It is done under local anaesthesia with mild sedation.

AUTOMATED HAIR TRANSPLANT

AUTOMATED HAIR TRANSPLANT

Frequently Asked Question

F.U.E. technique

AUTOLOGOUS TRANSPLANT - A SIMPLE PRINCIPLE

This technique transplants samples of hair genetically programmed not to fall from a donor site (generally the back of the head) to the balding recipient site (generally the areas around the temples and the top of the head). There the transplants retain permanently the growth characterstics that they had at the donor site. Since the donor and the recipient are the same person, there is no risk of rejection.
The process is thus just a straightforward hair redistribution. The doctor will have a short-and long-term operating strategy designed to optimize the transplant as far as possible, based on the condition of the hair and the age of the transplant patient.

THE F.U.E TECHNIQUE - FOLLICULAR-UNIT EXTRACTION

Over the last few years, the technique of Follicular Unit Extraction (F.U.E.), or follicular-unit transplant (a follicular unit is a set of between 1 and 4 live hairs) has been adopted by increasing numbers of hair transplant specialists, since the hair density it produces is completely natural and in keeping with the rest of the hair. Above all, it has significant advantages over other transplantation techniques : no stitches, no scarring, no risk of infection or complications, and little if any post-operative pain. You can resume your normal activities immediately after the operation.

ADVANTAGES OF THE AUTOMATED TECHNIQUE

Less operating time
No Scar, No Stitches
Less Post operative pain
Excellent quality hair graft with higher success rate.

THE F.U.E TECHNIQUE - AUTOMATED

The french company medicamat, in collaboration with leading international specialists in hair transplant, has developed and patented a new piece of medical equipment, the punch hair Matic, based on an electrically-controlled flow of compressed air. This retains all the advantages of the F.U.E technique as practised manually, but removes its two main disadvantages for both the patient and the practitioner.

The automated Punch Hair Matic helps the practitioner optimize the quality and speed of his movements during the two most important stages in the micro-transplant : When taking micro-grafts. The practitioner uses a circular scalpel with a diameter of between 0.8 and 1.4 mm, the value selected based on various criteria such as the patient's age, skin type and hair quality in the donor area, etc. When the grafts are being re-implanted in the recipient area.

EXAMPLES OF MICRO TRANSPLANTS

Roughly 1,000 to 3,000 hairs Can be transplanted in 1 session

During the operation, you will be lying down comforably and may talk to the practitioner, listen to music, read or even watch a film. It is not a stressful operation. Lastly, do not be too impatient. As with any hair transplant procedure, the final apperance is only truly successful aesthetically after 5 or 6 months.

Shampooing tips
  • Always use shampoos formulated for your hair type―dry, normal, oily or chemically treated. Egg shampoo is good for dry hair but avoid products which contain alcohol as they will dry out the hair even further.
  • Before shampooing, brush hair and scalp to free any knots and to loosen dirt and dead skin Cells.
  • Use lukewarm instead of hot water to help in removing any oily residues.
  • Wet your hair then work a small amount of shampoo throughout the hair, gently massaging your scalp with the pads of your fingers. Apply the shampoo to the hair by first pouring it into your hand and never directly.
  • Apply with the hands and fingers, massage firmly in rotating and circular movements.
  • Pay attention to areas where makeup and dirt easily get trapped like the hairline.
  • Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear. Repeat the process if necessary.
  • Blot the hair with a clean towel to remove excess water before conditioning your hair.
  • Gently dry the hair with the towel.
  • Avoid blow drying as far as possible.
  • Shampooing can be done as often (ideally every alternate day) as required to keep the hair clean and healthy, as long as you condition regularly.
  • If you shampoo regularly there is no need to lather twice.

Not to do…
  • Do not choose the wrong shampoo for the hair.
  • Do not wash your hair with soap or other detergents not formulated for the hair. They are highly alkaline and will upset your hair’s natural pH balance by stripping it of its natural oils.
  • Do not forget to condition your hair after shampooing if your shampoo does not have a conditioner.

Care of the hair and healthy growth of those tresses begins with simple steps likecutting in right and give them the proper nourishment and care they need. This includesright way of shampooing hair with the products meant for your particular hair-typeand conditioning and nourishing it so it looks glossy and healthy—and remains thatway too.

As hair is actually dead protein, it is necessary to keep it clean. Shampoos are designed to cleanse the hair and scalp, removing dirt and grime without stripping the hair it away too much of it s natural oils. Shampoo works with water droplets and lather to get between the hair and the dirt flakes and lift up grime particles,so they can be easily washed away.

Hair care experts agree that keeping one’s hair clean is very important. The way you shampoo your hair is mainly responsible for how it turns out when you sty leit. The right products and method of shampooing hair can help bring it texture and life so that your hair reflects your beauty and inner health.

Individuals with damagedor chemically treated hair should opt for shampoos labeled ‘pH balanced’. Personswith dry hair should avoid a clarifying shampoo, as it will strip their hair ofessential moisture. Instead, a deep penetrating protein rich shampoo with largequantities of herbal extracts will help soothe frizzy and brittle fried hair.

Personswith oily hair can opt for shampoos containing herbal extracts like thyme and sageto help control oil on the scalp and even the skin. These extracts help to purifythe scalp. Normal hair types can benefit from shampooing hair with products thatcontains aloe, glycerin, honey, amino acids or natural oils for moisturizing.

You are not alone… Hair loss afflicts millions of people and most of them are frustrated because they spent a lot for guaranteed products and got no results.

The real fact is that , guaranty is a marketing word which is being used to increase sale of the product. No commercial products is 100% efficient as a cure for each and every type of alopecia because there are so many trigger factors causing alopecia or hair loss. [hereditary, stress, hormones, medicines, irregular food habits, environment etc].

Which product is best for hair loss?.. It is really hard to answer. No product can be 100% perfect cure for all.

Why one product gives excellent result to some one but the same product does not yield any result to other ? ..as per Ayurveda books the answer is Prakriti [basic nature]. Just like human fingerprints each individual has unique basic nature so the treatment and its result may vary from person to person.

Ayurveda is India's traditional, natural system of medicine that has been practiced for more than 5,000 years. Ayurveda means the "science of life". World Health Organization [WHO] has recognized Ayurveda as prime alternative therapy. Ayurveda is the ancient Indian medical science, the origin of which can be traced back from Vedas which are the ancient books of knowledge, or science, from India.

Ayurveda believes in three doshas which are vata, pitta, and kapha. Each person has a unique blend of the three doshas, known as the person’s prakriti [basic nature]. Due to this Ayurvedic treatment is always individualized. In Ayurveda, a disease is viewed as a state of imbalance in one or more of a person’s doshas.

'Alopecia' is a medical terminology which is being used for various types of hair loss. There are different types of alopecia like androgenetic alopecia, diffuse alopecia, traction alopecia, cicatricial alopecia etc. But among all, alopecia areata is a highly unpredictable, autoimmune skin disease resulting in the loss of hair on the scalp and elsewhere on the body. Perfect etiology of alopecia areata is still not known but medical science believes that the affected hair follicles are mistakenly attacked by a person's own immune system (white blood cells), resulting in the arrest of the hair growth stage.

Alopecia areata usually starts with one or more small, round, smooth bald patches on the scalp and can progress to total scalp hair loss (alopecia totalis) or complete body hair loss (alopecia universalis). Ayurveda has described alopecia areata as indralupt.
