Add Layers

Add Layers

When you add lots of layers to your short cut, style possibilities are endless. When layers get progressively longer from the exterior to the top, you can roller set the interior for soft, feminine curl.

Direct hair back and spiral wrap most the front pieces for maximum movement. After rollers have cooled, finger style hair, backcomb select pieces and detail the ends.

Short Hair: Sexy Secrets

Short Hair: Sexy Secrets

Introduction

Just like everything related to hair, there are pros and cons for having short hair.

While short hair, on the right face shape combined with the right hair texture, type and condition can be stunning, short hair can also be unflattering on others.

Short hair can offer an instant style change, give the illusion of fuller hair and eliminate damaged ends. However, short hair, just like long hair can become boring over time.

Consider some of the suggestions listed below for adding a new sexy allure to short hair.

1. Texturize It

With a great perm, height, volume and curl combine to hair as soft and easy-going as can be. Some of the best hairstylists recommend a perm to transform a graduated cut into a fabulous new shape.

When hair is highly graduated, it rounds into a delicate halo; you can pull down side tendrils as desired.

Because interior texture comes from a perm, hair is wash-and-wear! If you have a very short crop, a root or pin curl perm adds texture; for a short bob, get a perm for volume or root lift.

2. Get a New Angle

Sleek and smooth styles look business-like cut to bob length, but when a sharp angle is added at the sides, hair frames the face beautifully. Then, consider asking your stylist for softening details like a razored nape and shimmering highlights.

Remember, angled sides can move from short to long (when cut along a diagonal-forward line) or from long to short (when cut along a diagonal-back line).

Some women adore long hair, others prefer medium lengths while others enjoy their short sassy looks.

I have met many women who would never part with their hard earned long locks just as I have met women that would never consider letting their short hair grow past their collarbones.

That is the beauty of life. We all have our own likes and dislikes about our hair, our makeup and our fashions.

I personally do not advocate any right or wrong length of hair but instead encourage everyone to wear their hair according to their own tastes, lifestyle, budget and to flatter their face, hair type and textures. Although I have had my own hair very long for many years, I admire beautiful hair in any length.

Advantages To Short Hair Styles:

In all fairness there are advantages and disadvantages to all lengths of hair from short to long. However, if you have always been a shy about considering short hair but secretly want to consider it, listed below are some of the key advantages that short hair can offer:

Flexible Hair Fashions

Flexible Hair Fashions

Disregarding how headbands evolved or what their roots were, headbands are popular with all ages. Although headbands are primarily worn by women, in the world of 2004 some metro sexual men like David Beckham also favor headbands, especially acrylic and faux tort made with teeth. Beckham also was spotted with leather headbands.

Whether they are worn as handy functional tools or as pure decoration, headbands are extremely flexible. Headbands can also be easily worn in combination with other hair accessories such as pony elastics, bobby or hair pins and a wide range of clips.

Headbands Are Dependable

Headbands are designed in a vast array of sizes, materials and price ranges. Headbands can be found at HairBoutique.com as well as in Fred Segal or other tony shopping Meccas.

Headbands can be worn for everyday wear, to the Prom, a Wedding or a Hollywood Gala.

Many people own multiple headbands at any given time. Just like other fashion accessories like purses or shoes, it is not uncommon to have a set of headbands for casual wear and another set for business or evening wear.

Teeth Or No Teeth

Headbands fall into two ranges of material. They are either hard bands or soft bands. The hard bands are traditionally made of materials such as faux tortoise, acrylics, and various types of plastics and metals.

Soft bands are made out of silks, satins, ribbons, cotton, rayon and various forms of stretchy materials. Soft bands are attached with flexible bands, elastic, snaps or ties.

Throughout the fashion history of the last 50 years headbands have come and gone.

A few years back the hottest hair rage for headbands was the bra strap band that was instantly developed on the fashion catwalks by stylists from Bumble and Bumble.

The bra bands took the fashion world by storm. At one point the bra bands, which were originally made when the B&B designers cut up actual bras to harvest the bands, became a rare commodity. The price for the bra bands went through the roof.

The current craze for the soft wide headbands worn close to the hairline hark back to the 60s when silk scarves were worn as headbands tied around the front of the head.

Satin and silk bands that range in width from 1 1/2 to 3 inches are the latest trends.

Several well known accessory designers like L. Erickson, Jane Tran and others are playing with many versions of this new style.

Some experts believe that headbands were actually copied from the early day wreaths that were from in the early Greek period dating from 475 BC to 330 BC.

The Greeks and Romans wore wreaths as ornamental bands in the form of naturalistic or stylized leaves worn on the head for very festive occasions or by victors at ancient games of sport.

As history progressed the Etruscans and the Romans upgraded their wreaths with precious metals such as gold, silver and gold-plated metals. They also used gilded woods that gave the appearance of myrtle, oak, olive or ivy leaves.

Wreaths were eventually worn in processions, dedicated by Holy Men and buried with the dead. They were worn by both the bride in groom in some societies.

Most recently, Jessica has embarked on her latest beauty endeavor with the grand opening of Studio Tres Jolie – a luxury makeup studio and spa. We sat down with this expert and asked her for her insights on bridal makeup, airbrush makeup, crucial makeup tools and more.

What makeup routine would you recommend for people who only have five minutes or less available in the morning?

An easy way to do makeup in five minutes is to start with a tinted moisturizer that has SPF in it.

Right there you're taking care of three steps: moisturizer, sunscreen, and foundation. Next use a cream blush, dab it on your cheeks, lids, and lips (again you just took care of three more steps).

Next line the eyes with a soft brown eyeliner pencil. Put a coat of mascara on the upper and lower lashes. Set the face with a translucent powder followed by some clear gloss to go over the cream blush you put on your lips and your out the door!

How is bridal makeup different from everyday makeup?

Bridal makeup s different then regular makeup because there are a lot more things to think about. Bridal makeup needs to be durable and resistant to last the entire day and night in some cases. It should be enough for photo's but look flawless in person and up close.

The makeup for a bride should follow the theme of the dress, jewelry, head piece etc... the makeup should be timeless because you want to look back at the pictures and love the way you looked. As far as regular makeup goes you have a lot of options and more leverage with the look and the colors depending on the function. It might only have to last a few hours depending on the occasion.

Your favorite medium is the airbrush. Why do you prefer this to more traditional mediums of makeup?

My favorite medium is the airbrush and I prefer this over traditional makeup because of the application and benefits. It lasts much longer then regular makeup (12 hours or more). The application is natural but flawless.

The silicone in the ingredients acts as a spackle and fills in fine lines and wrinkles. If someone touches your face or you sweat the makeup stays. Its great for brides, and people in the media who are in front of cameras a lot.

What are the three most important tools in your makeup kit?

The three most important tools in my makeup kit are my brushes, airbrush machine, and tweezers.

What is the best way to remove makeup at the end of the day?

To take off your makeup at night I recommend using an oil free makeup remover around the eyes followed by a make up wipe to really take the makeup off the skin. Last cleanse with a cleanser that is suitable for your skin type.

Maximize Your Hair Growing Potential

Gorgeous Long Hair

The number one question that I receive through the AskKaren column is how to make hair grow faster.

Many people write to tell me they are in a hair growing hurry because they are getting married, going to a Prom, meeting the future in-laws or fill in the blanks.

They want me to advise them how to grow their hair from short to long in a matter of just weeks.

Note: Although you might see similar articles as this, unfortunately many Web hair copycat sites have illegally "lifted" content from this original article and slightly "rewritten it" to avoid copyright issues. Please note that this original article first appeared in 2001 and has been constantly updated. It is the original article.

As many of you know, I'm going to tell you the truth, as I know it, about hair. So the answer to "instant hair growth" is that there isn't any.

There is no magic bullet. If you want to go from a short Bob to long flowing locks instantly than you do have some options, but depending on a variety of factors, they may be limited. Your best bet for overnight long hair is to consider hair extensions, clip on ponytails or long wigs.

Yes, there are lots of things that can maximize the potential of your hair growing cycle but it is absolute folly to imagine that you can go to bed one night with shoulder length hair and the next day wake up with a new inch of growth.

There are some very rare exceptions, but most hair on most people is genetically programmed to grow a maximum of 6 inches a year.

There are some people like Crystal Gayle who obviously grow hair at a much faster rate than the average human soul. However, she's definitely the exception and not the rule.
