Healthy Hair Shampoo

Healthy Hair Shampoo

If you worry about hair loss and keeping your hair healthy, you should consider using organic shampoo. By now, it's pretty much out there that there are bad ingredients in shampoos that have been linked eye and scalp irritation, hair loss and hormonal disruptions. Two chemicals that made the most headlines are Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and the parabens family. SLS is a common foaming agent and has been found to disrupt the normal hair cycle that leads to hair loss. Parabens are preservatives used to prevent spoilage and prolong the life span of the product. Parabens are considered carcinogenic because these chemicals are found to have the ability to mimic certain hormones that develop cancers thus increasing the chances of developing cancers.

Many companies have changed their shampoos formula to exclude SLS and parabens; however, they are still using other chemicals that have been found to affect our health. Although more researches are underway to find out the health impact of daily exposure to chemicals used in shampoos, I think there's enough evidence from studies linking these chemicals to health problems. It's better to be safe than sorry. There are so many shampoos on the market today jumping on the "all natural" bandwagon. It was hard to know which ingredients are bad and which are safe. Over time, I realized that it's so much easier to buy organic shampoos. The only way to know what's inside your shampoo bottle is to read the ingredients label. The bad ingredients in cleansing agent are numerous. You might see something that reads triethanolamine (TEA), diethanolamine (DEA), methylisothiazolinone (MIT), and paraphenylenediamine. Notice how ultra long and unpronounceable these ingredients are. Beware of long ingredients like these.

When you want to buy what's good for you, you have to be willing to look for it. There are companies that make misleading natural and organic claims. This is because the definition of natural and organic is not strictly regulated so a company may claim that its shampoo is natural if it contains just a small percentage of plant extracts. Once you know what to look for, it becomes so much easier to look for the right shampoo. This is why learning to read what's inside your shampoo is important. Long and unpronounceable ingredients raise a red flag in my ingredients list. I'd like to also add that there are different qualities of organic shampoos. Remember you get what you pay for. The certified organic shampoos are by far the most expensive. These elite shampoos contain ingredients that followed through with the organic farming standards and guidelines of sustainable farming and use absolutely no chemicals sprays. If the shampoo bears a certified organic seal, that means that the shampoo contains 75-95% truly certified organic ingredients.
