Exfoliation removes the outer layer of the oldest dead skin cells. This shedding of the outer layer unclogs pores, keeps skin clean, and helps reduce acne breakouts. Making your own skin exfoliator at home is one of the easiest ways to try making your own natural skin care. Here you will find how to exfoliate skin with natural ingredients.

Homemade Skin Exfoliate



1. Mix one tablespoon of baking soda and one tablespoon of your favorite face lotion or cleanser. Using a circular motion, gently scrub face, then rinse and moisturize.

2. Combine a teaspoon of baking soda and half teaspoon of sea salt. The baking soda will polish the skin and the sea salt will perform the scrubbing action. Apply it on the face. You will get a baby smooth skin with a definite glow.

3. Another homemade skin exfoliate is baking soda with aloe vera. Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with enough aloe vera juice or gel to make a smooth paste. You can add more baking soda if the mixture gets too wet. Use bottled or fresh aloe vera. Gently scrub face with circular motion for 1-2 minutes then rinse, tone and moisturize.

4. Ingredients required to prepare this homemade skin exfoliator are one tsp sugar, one tsp olive oil, one tsp glycerin and few drops of patchouli oil. Mix all the above. First wet your skin and then gently scrub it into your body with circular motions. Wash it off with water. This scrub is good for dry skin.

5. Salt and honey scrub is also a common skin exfoliate used at home. For this you require one tsp honey and one tsp salt. Add few drop of patchouli oil. Mix them all. First wet your skin and then gently scrub it into your body with circular motions. Wash it off with water. This scrub is good for oily skin.

6. You can also try this homemade skin exfoliant that requires one tsp crushed almond, half tsp honey, half tsp milk, half tsp tomato juice and a few drop of patchouli oil. Mix all these ingredients. First wet your skin and then gently scrub it into your body with circular motions. Wash it off with water. This scrub is good for Combination skin.

7. Gram flour (besan) and moong dal scrub is another easy to prepare homemade home exfoliate. You need one tsp gram flour and one tsp moong dal. Use milk and rose water for binding. Add few drops of patchouli oil. Mix all these ingredients. First wet your skin and then gently scrub it into your body with circular motions. Wash it off with water.

8. Take one tsp of rice flour, one tsp of honey, one tsp of milk and a few drops of patchouli oil. Mix them properly. First wet your skin and then gently scrub it into your body with circular motions. Wash it off with water.

9. Take cucumber or avocado, strawberries, honey, oatmeal or ground almonds. Mix them. Wet your skin and then gently scrub it into your body with circular motions. Wash it off with water.

10. Mix one cup of plain instant oatmeal and half cup of honey and one egg white and prepare a paste. After washing and drying your skin apply the exfoliator to the skin with circular motions, then after 15 minutes rinse and moisturize the skin.

11. Oats and essential oil scrub is a common homemade skin exfoliator. Crush into small bits two teaspoons of raw oats and mix with honey and quarter teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and one drop of basil oil. You can also use tea tree oil instead of basil oil. After washing and drying your skin apply the exfoliator to the skin with circular motions, then after 15 minutes rinse and moisturize the skin.

12. Mix a handful of sea salt with olive oil and prepare a paste. After washing and drying your skin apply the exfoliant to the skin with circular motions, then after 15 minutes rinse and moisturize the skin.

As with any exfoliate, you should wear a good all round sunscreen after exfoliating, toning and moisturizing. And don't overdo the skin exfoliation. 2-3 times a week is fine.
