New Jersey’s own Eric Alt, of Eric Alt Salons, seems to be at the epicenter of the New Jersey big hair movement. After all, he just happens to be the stylist for one of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. He has also worked on America’s Next Top Model. Hairstylesdesign.com interviewed this creative hairstylist and colorist so he could share great advice with readers around the globe. HSD: In your professional opinion, what hairstyle trend/s do you see for this coming fall, 2010? EA: Hair this fall seems to be moving toward an exciting new take on a retro look….lots of loose fluffy hair with a glam Debbie Harry inspired edge. Lots of texture at every length. Do not be afraid to introduce layers into your haircut this fall. Ponytails are loose textural and side swept like the ones I helped create at the Fall 2010 DKNY show. When it comes to wearing your hair up, think bombshell 1960s bouffants inspired by Brigitte Bardot. Clients seem to really love it when I experiment with different poufy looks and who knows, you may start a trend of your own. HSD: When speaking about hair height, most women are afraid to go TOO big on the top, what is the perfect height of hair and give examples if possible. EA: Hair height is a very personal decision. There is no right or wrong. You must do what feels right to you and makes you feel sexy, whether it be a little bump or a fierce bouffant. I feel that Beyonce always does it right. She is the queen of big hair whether it is curly or straight. . Jessica Biel and Angelina Jolie have mastered the more subtle bump while Drew Barrymore takes it to a new level with her big hair looks. For some people its Amy Winehouse all the way. HSD: What products would you personally recommend to achieve this look? EA: I love to use a dry shampoo (hair powder) to create this look it gives hair a gritty lived in feel. This is great for giving support for teasing and maintaining height. Alt. Purify Dry Shampoo is my personal favorite that was created exactly for these kinds of looks. | ||
