However, the optimum level of humidity that is favourable for healthy nails is 55 per cent.
It is known that nails are more flexible and, therefore, easier to trim after a hot water bath. However, they undergo a dramatic change when the humidity around them rises to 55 per cent.
And scientists have said that at this point, they are most resistant to damages caused because of splitting.
“We have found that fingernails cope remarkably well over a range of humidities. But it is best not to get them completely dry or completely wet. At an average of 55 per cent humidity, it appears that nails have optimum mechanical properties and resist any damage.
