Eye Care, How to Care for Your Eyes

It is said that your eyes are the gateway to your soul…and the importance of our eyes can never be emphasized enough. When we apply make-up, certainly apply eye make-up, too. From kohl to lapis lazuli to eye glitter to colored contact lenses—the list of eye makeup articles is quite long. If our eyes get so much of attention, it is only natural that eye care should form a very important part of body care which we follow in our daily routine.

Eye care means taking care of our eyes as well as the soft skin that surrounds the eyes. The skin around the eye area is very delicate and therefore, is the first place where wrinkles and fine lines (crow's feet or laughter lines) develop. You need to pay extra attention to these areas all through the day.

What you have to careful about is, not to expose it to heavy moisturizers and oils as these would do more harm than good to your eye. This is the reason why making eye care a part of your everyday routine in a proper way will ensure that those wrinkles stay away and dark circles do not cause problems.

If you look around, you will find that there are numerous remedies that can well become a part of your eye care regime. These include anything from special eye pads, cosmetic products and home-made eye care therapies. However, you will have to try out all of these three methods to find out which is the one that suits you best.

When choosing cosmetic eye care products, get a gel based under eye cream if you have oily skin. Besides you can use light eye creams and balms as these will prove to be effective too. Applying light moisturizers very gently around the eyes, as often in the day as possible, will keep the under eye nourished and hydrated.

You may also use a mixture of milk cream, almond oil, and honey as an under eye pack. Leave this on for 5 minutes and wash it off with plain water. Take care that this under eye pack does not get into your eyes. This "under eye" pack can be applied to the area around your eyes.

You can place thin slices of potato, or grated potato on the under eye area. This helps to reduce puffiness as well as dark circles. You can also place one thick slice of cucumber over each eye and leave on for 15 minutes for a fresh and cool feel. This will, also, prevent the appearance of dark circles to a certain extent. Besides, you can also place cotton pads soaked in ice-cold rose-water or milk and place them on the eyes for relaxation.

Remove eye makeup with a cotton bud dipped in a light moisturizer. Keep your eyes clean. Do not leave on eye makeup for long stretches of time. Splash cold water on your eyes—this helps the eye muscles to relax. Also, go for eye check-ups, regularly.

Wearing a pair of sunglasses whenever you go out in the sun will protect your eyes against over exposure to harmful ultraviolet rays.
