Often hear women saying that they don’t have time to relax because they are too busy. It is exactly such women who most need the benefits proper relaxation can bring. Many of us require superhuman stamina to do all that is demanded of us to bring up a family and keep the various elements of a household ticking over, often at the same time as holding down a demanding job. Our health and well being are therefore a top priority, hence the importance of making time to look after ourselves. If we don’t make a point of it, no one else will.

Steps of Facial Home Spa

Lie back and relax

Relaxing is one of the most effective ways of counteracting stress. This alleviates the accumulated physical and psychological pressure. In fact one of the most therapeutic treatments we can give ourselves is a long, relaxing soak in the bath.

Cleanse your Skin

After relaxing, cleanse your skin thoroughly that is perfect for your skin. Creamy, non-foaming hydrating cleansers are very effective for the dry skin. While a mildly foaming cleansers works better on the oily skin. Apply the cleanser with the fingertips in round circles. Then remove the cleanser with a soft cotton or tissue, or rinse which I think is a better option.

Exfoliation

Exfoliate the dry layer of the skin with an exfoliating cleanser or scrub. Massage face very gently with the facial scrub for no more than one minute. Scrubbing too hard or too vigorously can advance the signs of aging in the skin. Exfoliation will allow you to get under the skin and the hair follicles, and helps your skin renew itself. Then gently remove the scrub with the warm water.

Facial Massage

Now give yourself a facial massage. Start the facial massage by tapping your fingers calmly along your forehead, and press your fingers along your cheekbones from nose to ear. Then press fingers up and down back of your neck. Now, apply your mask gently avoiding sensitive temples. Let it stay on the skin for several minutes. Then rinse gently but thoroughly.

Toning

Toning your skin is important, as it causes pores to shrink and skin to become smooth, soft and supple. Moreover, it is the process which prepares the skin for getting moisturized . Apply the toner on your face using a clean cotton ball or pad avoiding the eyes and again stay relaxed.

Moisturize

Every skin type requires a moisturizer, and it is very important step of your home facial spa to give your skin with the right type of moisturizer. Apply a small quantity of moisturizer and massage over the skin. This will help to seal in moisture.

Performing all these steps rightly and carefully will provide you a smooth and fresh skin. A spa offers a serene environment that encourages stress reduction. Facial not only helps your skin, but can be soothing. When you are comfortable with your skin, that confidence comes through in a natural glow.

A brief review of Skin toners and their importance.

A brief review of Skin toners and their importance.

Variety of skin toners.Toners are an essential part of the skin care routine. They help in smoothing your skin, and act as a balm after the exfoliation process. These help to seal skin pores, tightens the outer layer of the facial skin. They also act as a safety net after a heavy exfoliation and cleansing routine. Toners are generally applied to the face using damp cotton wool or a gauze. They can also be sprayed on to the face. Toners also restore the acid/alkali balance of the skin. Some types of the toners can be used specifically for treating red irritating skin or removing dead skin cells. Toners which contain witch hazel may dry the skin, so a moisturizer like a honey may have to be used.

Types of Toners

There are three types of toners which are as follows

  • Fresheners
  • Skin Tonics
  • Astringents

Fresheners

These are the mildest form of the toners. They contain virtually no alcohol, (0-10%) water, and a humectant such as glycerin. Humectants help to keep the moisture in the upper layer of the epidermis by preventing it from the evaporating. A good example of the skin freshener is the rosewater. These types of toners are gentle to the skin and are suitable for the dry, normal, sensitive, and dehydrated skins.

Skin Tonics

Skin tonics are slightly stronger and contain a small quantity of alcohol, (up to 20%), water and a humectant ingredient. Skin tonics remove the last trace of cleansing milk or cream and help to restore the skin’s natural proactive mantle. They are best for the normal, combination, and oily skins.

Astringents

Astringents are the strongest form of toners and contain a high proportion of the alcohol (20-26%), antiseptic ingredient, a humectant ingredient, and water. They are commonly recommended for the oily skins as they are drying, but note that the removal of oil from the skin can lead to excess oil production as the skin tries to compensate for this and prevent moisture loss. Witch hazel is the best example of astringents.
You can get a range of natural toners from your kitchen or back yard garden. We will list some good and easily available natural skin toners in some next post

scrubbing skinUndoubtedly, the messiest beauty treatment of all is the mud pack. It takes a real natural beauty enthusiast to try an all-over body pack, but the results are worth the extra effort. Mud packs work by using natural clays to draw out impurities, sebum and general grim from the pores of the skin. These clays also remove the top layer of the dead skin cells, leaving the entire surface of the body soft, fresh and glowing. Mud packs may also be used for areas of acne on the back, or cellulite on the hips and thighs.

  • 150 g fuller’s earth
  • 200 ml fresh apple juice
  • 15 ml lemon juice
  • 30 ml almond oil
  • 15 ml runny honey
  • 6 drops sandalwood or neroli essential oil

Mix together the fuller’s earth with the apple juice and lemon juice until it forms a smooth paste. Stir in the almond oil, honey and fragrant essential oil. To use, apply small amounts of the mixture to the body, starting at the feet and working upwards. Concentrate on the areas of dull, dingy skin such as the hips, thighs and upper arms. Gently massage the mixture into the skin and leave for a few minutes to dry before stepping into the shower. Use warm water to thoroughly rinse away all traces of the mud pack, and then shower as usual.
